Do I need to give monthly New House updates, now? Framing—yes, actual framing—is supposed to start in just a few days and I know it might be one of the longer phases but it’s just so exciting, right? Again, more details on this very amateur Instagram account if you’re in any way interested!
The Crumbs Podcast
This month’s episode includes two reality TV people’s books, updates on my watch of Lessons in Chemistry, a book that I’m loving, a new adaptation trailer (movie comes out in two days), Palm Royale deviations, and more! Listen here: The Crumbs—Episode 4.
And now, on to the books of the month!
Currently Reading
My current favorite read is Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. This book follows a young boy through trailer parks, foster care and poverty as he fights for his life, or whatever is left of it. At first it felt really sad and just like a huge downer so I wasn’t that into it but now I’m about 40% in and am liking it a lot more. It’s still sad and heartbreaking but when I mentioned that on Instagram, I got several messages saying to keep going, so that’s what I’m going to do. Have you read it? What are your thoughts?

Just Finished Reading
Anticipating the release of The Idea of You—the movie, I listened to the audiobook by Robinne Lee, which is also read by her. As a warning, the level of spice in this book is fairly high. I wrote a short, spoiler-free review on Instagram, though, it does include some of my feelings, so if you don’t like even knowing anyones feelings about books, steer clear. The story of a 39-year-old divorced mom dating one of the most famous boy band members in the world. Aside from what I deemed as an excessive amount of spice, I really liked this book. I think it was well-written. I could really use a sequel because I feel like there is more to the story. If I were to go back in time, I would probably prefer to read the physical book. I’m kind of excited about the movie, but also not at the same time because I didn’t love the ending of the book. Are you going to be watching The Idea of You? It’s on Amazon Prime and has Anne Hathaway, who I love.

Vintage Read
I, very much randomly, decided to listen to Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. A 13-year vintage about a future world where everyone basically lives in VR. It follows a young boy trying to win the fortune of the man who created the VR game in which everyone lives. A book that, once again, was released during my reading hiatus, as was the movie. I remember seeing some back and forth about the movie once it was released. Unfortunately, I did watch some clips and I don’t think it’s for me. BUT I do think it’s for the target audience of the book. I really liked this book. I listened to it, and I would do the same if I were to do it over. The ending did feel a little anticlimactic but there is a sequel, so maybe it’s good? I don’t know that I’ll read it. Maybe in a couple of months.

For the Kids(and sometimes adults, too)
Here’s a few children’s books for you! This month, I’m getting my recs from my friend, Aimee. She runs an account keyed in on the best books for kids.
First is this cutie, Aimee says, “It’s hilarious and imaginative!” The parents of the protagonist decide to dive head first into their child’s imaginative world. AHOY! by Sophie Blackall.
Built ot Last by Minh Le and Dan Santat. Aimee says, “a beautiful representation of friendship.” In the context of building creations, this book teaches about building relationships that last.
Snacks To-Go
🍫 Just FYI, I read Mr. and Mrs. American Pie, the book that Palm Royale is supposedly based on. It was quite slow and I would say not worth the 15 hours I sunk into it.
And that’s it! So happy you made it here this month.
Don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss the next one!
Talk soon,
